So I went in and checked my stats and discovered that the bandwith had tripled to what it normally is. I then noticed 2,000 uniques from a unknown website. I went to the site and looked at the source to see what they were linking to. It was a music file!

My host told me that I could stop that by disabling hotlinking. Now seemed like a good time to disable all hotlinking, which is bandwidth theft!

What is bbcode?

BBCode is an abbreviation for Bulletin Board Code, the lightweight markup language used to format posts in many message boards. It is also called forum codes. The available tags are usually indicated by rectangular brackets surrounding a keyword, and they are parsed by the message board system before being translated into a markup language that web browsers understand, usually HTML or XHTML.

Here’s how it works:

In html, you might use <b>tags</b> to make a word or sentence appear in bold text. With bbcode you would use [b]tags[/b] to make it appear in the post as tags.

To use italics, you would use [i]italic[/i] tags to make it appear like italic

To use colour formats, use [color=red]Hello![/color] or [color=blue]Hello![/color]

You can also change the size of your text by using [size=9]tiny[/size] tags.

Check with the forum you belong to as to which bbcodes are enabled but try not to go overboard as most people with would rather read plain text
